Musician, Psychologist & Educator
Musician, Psychologist & EducatorBorys is a musician and a psychologist. He teaches frame drums and develops his own method of teaching rhythmics based on rhythmic vocalization, inspired by somatic practices. Music is a basic, innate human ability. Everybody is capable of connecting with their inner musicality and finding their own ways of enjoying it.
Borys’ aim is to provide his students with tools to access one’s own musical-self. He dedicates special focus to our primary instrument: the body – it’s posture, responsiveness, breath, presence, relaxation. To cultivate a more intuitive feel, he makes use of different somatic practices, engaging movement and voice to access the natural inner musicality.
An important part of his approach is a rhythmic vocalization system based on the Southern-Indian Konnakol tradition - a great method to develop the sense of rhythm and a powerful compositional tool. Traditional musicians are often guests in his workshops: it allows students to practice accompanying the melody and understand the roles of percussion in music.
Borys followed self-organized music education in a variety of instruments eventually devoting himself to the frame drums, which he has studied since 2010 from Zohar Fresco. He also studied from i.a. Sabina Giannatou, Bijan Chemirani, Jacek Ostaszewski, Adama Drame, Efren Lopez.
The other important field that influences him as a musician and a teacher is movement improvisation, which he has studied from Kirstie Simson, Iwona Olszowska, Andrew Morrish, Rebeca Lazier, Alice Chauchat and other renowned teachers around the world.
Traditional music is his essential inspiration and field of work. He is based in traditions from Poland and Greece, often drifting towards Middle Eastern pop, free-improvisation, punk.
At School Of Voice Borys teaches Middle Eastern frame drums (bendir, tar, daf, riq), konnakol, body awareness through rhythm and improvisation. He is fluent in English, Greek and Polish. Borys enjoys teaching people of all ages.
